(No. 150.) (Telegraphic.) P. OPIUM. With reference to your telegram No. 101 of the 20th instant respecting alleged renewal of taxation and restrictions at Canton, His Majesty's consul-general at Canton telegraphs as follows under to-day's date :-

"The information in question is incorrect. Means of taxing prepared opium without infringing the agreement of the 8th May are being considered by the authorities. Wholesale trade and raw opium are not to be affected. I will report as soon as they have arrived at a conclusion."
